Niagara Sunday Fliers Inc. A.M.A. Charter No. 779
The Niagara Sunday Fliers Inc. was formed by two gentlemen, Don Cameron and Phil Morgan.
Don Cameron received the first permit to fly at the Reservoir State Park in 1968.
The Club held the monthly meetings at the Holiday Inn in Niagara Falls and at the Alps Restaurant on Military Rd. in the Town of Niagara. The Club meetings were moved to the Niagara Falls Air Base in the Falcon Club on the First Tuesday of the Month at 7:30 pm. (Oct. – May ). The Club also met at the Reservoir State Park on the First Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. (June – September) weather permitting.
History Note: Back in the 1950’s a Club by the name of the Niagara Fliers were flying at Packard Rd. They were meeting in the back of Ronely’s Hobby Store on 22nd and Pine Ave., in Niagara Falls. Once a month in the evening they met until Mr. and Mrs. Ronely sold the business and moved to California.
Back in the 60’s the Club flew on Blarrville Rd. in Youngstown N.Y. they also were flying on Miller Rd. Back then the Flyers were using Kraft receivers. They were single Channel radios. Hal Debult demonstrated a Brankoe receiver in the back of Ronely’s Hobby Store but they were never able to buy any to use.
The next type of Radio that was used was a Hercules transmitter (Reed type) with Boner servos. The Galoping Ghost transmitter was the first transmitter used that resembled a proportional radio that is used today.
